Lobster Shack

This story came from the 'Opening The Gate' Project

The program began in 2021 and was successful in providing the opportunity for 67 agritourism business development program participants and 33 masterclass participants to participate across the State (including King Island and Flinders Island)


East  Coast 

Perched on the waterfront in Bicheno, the Lobster Shack is as close to an ocean-to-plate dining experience as you can get. Every morning, Marcus launches his boat just metres from the front door and heads off to collect the day’s catch.


Returning with the freshest of seafood in hand, Marcus and Sara share their produce with visitors at their farmgate style eatery. Here, you can sit and devour fresh fish as you keep an eye out for whales migrating and seals sunbaking on the nearby rocks.

From beginnings as a live export business, they soon realised that they could celebrate one of Tassie’s tastiest icons better – the humble lobster.

So, they built the eatery and have since worked to showcase the best of Tasmanian produce and its provenance. Sourcing their own seafood (or that of the local fishermen), Sara and Marcus are proud to tell the story of where it’s come from and share their passion for one of the finest seafoods in the world.
